The Multi-Talented Performer Friends – Swedish-Japanese Performers Association

How do you fully describe artists that are so multi-talented and creative it hurts? Out of respect for these two women I can say right now – It is impossible to capture every aspect of their careers in this short article – I am not even a professional writer. Search out their work for yourself – it is a deep, deep rabbit hole to fall into.

SARI (瑳里) Singer – Dancer – Fashion Model – Painter

SARI started out as a fashionable student hanging out in Harajuku wearing outrageously colourful outfits. However, she is probably best known for her Shirionuri style (face painted in white) from when she was a member of the ultradark group NECRONOMIDOL – Black metal, darkwave, NWOBHM and other eclectic genres of music, inspired by the imagery of HP Lovecraft horror stories – Phew, that was long. She used to wear a spider on her cheek for work (who doesn’t?) and her distinct style can be seen in the music video Strange Aeons (link below). She was rarely seen in public without the Shirionuri make up – sometimes DJ-ing at clubs, doing photo shoots and, at the time, being an alt-idol.

Fun Fact 1. SARI, the alt-idol at the time, placed 3rd in the Tokyo Idol Queen 2018 – A contest by the magazine IDOL FILE (Vol.07). The magazine had a voting ticket inside. Although she had 2nd place within her grasp, it ended up being a grand slam for the winner Chunpi. SARI presumably had the fans of NECRONOMIDOL voting for her (2 373 points) but the loyal Twitter followers came to Chunpi’s rescue. The winner was worthy though with 10 522 points. What I remember most was the unfortunate 4th placed idol. She lost to SARI by ONE vote (i.e. 6 points), ouch.

Fun Fact 2. The Witching Hour hosted by Nick Norton (@TIMEBOMBGEININ). Nick is known for being the English speaking funny host of NogiEigo with Nogizaka46 – Check him out too, he has got a band and everything (link below). I introduced him and his friends to NECRONOMIDOL – It took one show and he was hooked. The Witching Hour was a tiny self-produced YouTube show with NECRONOMIDOL. Anyway, SARI and the members took part in the show answering questions about Hulk Hogan (!) and on the odd occasion eating disgusting food – You have to see it to believe it.

The norm is to perform only in Japan – in places like the Shinjuku Loft. NECRONOMIDOL is an unusual alt-idol group. They also went on tours in several countries in the EU and USA, ending up in Sweden of all places. The members of SJPA helped out as guest handlers, security, and sponsors at events like NärCon in Sweden and East Meets West Music Fest in the USA. But I digress – The alt-idol era eventually came to an end for SARI when she graduated from NECRONOMIDOL to pursue her solo career. She used to train ballet in her early youth and that came in handy for her dance project Manhattan Attitude. The Shirionuri idol is now replaced with a cool singer. Always fashionable, still doing photo shoots, live paintings on stage and arranging art exhibitions.

Her debut single [kyusai], with [mawaru], showed the fans what she was capable of. The fans had seen bits and pieces of it in NECRONOMIDOL, but now it was finally her time to shine. Her latest song, at the time of writing, is [sari no shitaku] (links below).

Is there a way to be more creative? Well, it helps to have friends like Utena Yuki. They are quite different in the way they act, but they seem to get along well as friends.

Utena Yuki (うてなゆき) Singer – YouTuber – Retro Gamer – Designer – Painter

Nickname Utenyan. Her project is called NEMLESSS (ネムレス).

NEMLESSS and SARI (when in NECRONOMIDOL) collaborated on the CD/EP [Boundless Wounds] – Music by Kei Toriki. But that was not enough – Why not go all-in?

On the 27th of October 2019 it happened. Let us build a life-size peaceful tank out of wood and fill it with happy memories? Design your own neon stage costume. Sing on stage like a boss (link below). Sell your music and designs in your own online store. You can even buy the tank as a miniature paper model.

In your “free time” go stare at sheep in the countryside with your friend SARI (link below). You see, NEMLESSS has got a YouTube channel called NemTV. All sorts of antics can be seen and heard. She is also a hard-core retro-gamer on Twitch – Playing video games without a filter. The screams and squeals, when winning or losing, are a joy to listen to, even if you don’t understand a single word of Japanese.

Oh, while you are at it, arrange an art exhibition with SARI. Utena Yuki once had an art exhibition in Sweden of all places, where she was taught the essential Swedish words. She often says “SKÅL!” when she sees the nickname Paul From Sweden. Skål means “cheers” when you drink in Sweden. I am however a beginner when it comes to Utena Yuki and NEMLESSS so I look forward to learning more.

I have only scratched the surface of these two multi-talented performers, so search out their work. Prepare to be amazed.

多才なアーティスト仲間達

才能に満ち溢れるアーティストを上手く紹介する方法はありますか？これから紹介する2人の女性が素晴らしすぎて上手く説明できません。この短い文章の中で全ての経歴をお話しすることは不可能です。しかも、私はプロのライターではありません。あなた達自身で彼女たちの作品を探してみてください。とても深い世界に触れることができます。

SARI (瑳里) 歌手 – ダンサー – ファションモデル – 画家

瑳里は元々ファッションセンスが良い学生で、おしゃれな服で原宿に行っていました。さらに、以前はNECRONOMIDOLというグループで活動しており、白塗りしているメンバーとして1番有名でした。NECRONOMIDOLはブラックメタル、ダークウェイブ、NWOBHMや折衷的な音楽のジャンルでH.P. Lovecraftのホラーストーリー影響を受けた世界観を持つアイドルグループです。長文失礼しました。仕事中にほっぺにクモを載せたり(皆んなする事でしょ？）、さらには彼女のスタイルの良さはStrange Aeonsというミュージックビデオで確認できます(リンクは下にあります)。

白塗りしてない姿は稀で、彼女は良くクラブでDJをやったり、撮影をしたり、それと並行して地下アイドルもやっていました。

おもしろ裏話その1。

地下アイドル時代に、IDOL FILEという雑誌の第7巻にあったTokyo Idol Queen 2018というコンテストで３位。雑誌の中に選挙チケットが入ってました。彼女は2位と僅差でしたが、惜しくも勝者Chunpiに敗れました。また、瑳里はNECRONOMIDOLのファン投票で2373点を獲得しましたが、Twitterの熱心なファンがChunpiを援助。優勝者は10522点でどちらにせよ勝てませんでした。鮮明に記憶に残っているのは運がなかった４番目になったアイドル。1票(6点)差で瑳里に負けました。悔しいですね。

おもしろ裏話その2。

Nick Norton(@TIMEBOMBGEININ)が司会をしているラジオのThe Witching Hourについてです。Nickは乃木坂４６が参加してるNogiEigoという番組で、英語を話す面白い司会者です。バンドなども行っているので是非チェックしてみてください。私は彼とその友達にNECRONOMIDOLを紹介しました。ライブ1本見ただけでハマったそうです。The Witching Hourは自作でやっているNECRONOMIDOLが出てるYouTube番組です。そこでは瑳里とその他メンバーが番組に参加して色んな質問を答えたり(例えばHulk Hoganについて)、更には気持ち悪い食べ物を食べたりしていました。信じられない光景です。

主に日本でライブを開催しています。新宿LOFTなど。NECRONOMIDOLは地下アイドルとして珍しいグループです。ヨーロッパの色んな国やアメリカなどでツアーをし、スウェーデンにも来ました。SJPAのスタッフがスウェーデンのNärConとアメリカのEast Meets West Music Festというイベントでセキュリティー、マネジメント、そしてスポンサーを担当しました。また、これは余談ですが、瑳里の地下アイドル時代はNECRONOMIDOLから卒業したことにより終わりを告げました。幼い頃はバレエを習っていたためManhattan Attitudeというダンスプロジェクトに役立ちました。白塗りアイドルがクールな歌手に変貌を遂げました。彼女らしいセンスの良い撮影をしたり、ステージでライブペインティンクを゙して、美術展を開催したりもします。

デビューシングル「kyusai」、そして「mawaru」がファンに真髄を見せました。NECRONOMIDOL時代にも少し垣間見れていましたが、彼女がやっと自分らしく表現できる時代が来ました。この記事を書いている時の新曲は「sari no shitaku」です。(リンクは下にあります)

もっと彼女がクリエイティブになる方法はあるでしょうか？うてなゆきみたいな友達がいるときっと良い方向に影響されるのではないでしょうか。二人とも性格は違えど、仲良が良いようです。

うてにゃんと呼ばれてます。プロジェクト名はNEMLESSS(ネムレス)です。

NECRONOMIDOL時代の瑳里とNEMLESSSがKei Torikiが作曲担当した「Boundless Wounds」というミニアルバムでコラボしました。でもそれではまだまだ彼女たちの魅力が伝わりません。もっと力を見せつければいいのではないのでしょうか。

2019年１０月２７日ついにきました。等身大で平和な戦車を木で作って幸せな思い出を埋めよう。自分のネオンカラーのステージ衣装をデザインして、かっこいい姿で歌って、(下にリンクあります)　自分のオンラインストアで音楽とデザインも販売しています。戦車のミニチュアモデルでも購入出来ます。

暇な時は瑳里と一緒に羊を眺めます(リンクは下にあります)。実は、NEMLESSSがYouTubeにNemTVというチャンネルがあります。そこで色んなふざけた事を見たり聴いたりする事が出来ます。また、彼女はTwitchでハードコアのレトロゲーマーで堂々とゲームの生放送してます。叫んだり悔しがったり、勝ても負けても、日本語を理解が出来なくてもそれを見るのが楽しいです。

そして、瑳里と美術展もやります。うてなゆきは以前スウェーデンでも開催しました。その時多くのスウェーデン語を学びました。Paul From Sweden(スウェーデンからのポール)というユーザ名が現れる時に良くSKÅL!を呼んでくれてます。Skålはスウェーデン語で「乾杯」の意味です。私はまだうてなゆきとNEMLESSSの新参者なので、これから他にも彼女について知ることが楽しみです。

私はまだこの多才なアーティストたちの奥深くまで知り得ていないので是非あなた自身でも調べることをお勧めします。きっと感動の嵐が巻き起こるでしょう。
