Swedish-Japanese Performers Association is proud to announce multi-artist MIYA making an appearance at NärCon Sommar 2024. She will do a stage performance, a dance workshop and a signing session, but she will also be one of the judges of the NärCon K-Pop Dance Competition.
Did we just say K-Pop? Yes, MIYA (미야) is a Japanese multi-artist with her roots firmly in K-Pop. After moving to Korea on her own, she debuted as a member of the 7-member girl group “GWSN” (Girls in the Park) in 2018. She has garnered a broad fan base across genders with her unique girl-crush charm. Her first solo song “MIYAO,” released on March 8 this year, reached No. 1 on the iTunes Store’s “K-Pop Top Songs” in New Zealand and the Netherlands, and charted in various other countries.
At NärCon she will make different types of appearances, showing her multifaceted character as an artist. MIYA will be doing her first solo stage events outside Japan at NärCon. Her music features a heavy bass sound with elements of electronic hip-hop. This will be something to really look forward to!
MIYA’s appearance is a result of a close cooperation between SJPA, NärCon and MASTER LIGHTS Inc. “We are really pleased to be able to present an artist unlike anyone else we have worked with, it fits our goal to show the broad horizons in Japanese music,” explains Pepijn Klaassen, SJPA’s event planner. “K-Pop is a very popular genre in Japan. Of course it has its roots in J-Pop, but has changed significantly in Korea and now a new generation of Japanese artists are doing their own interpretations of it. This cross referencing is one of the more exciting things happening in Japanese popular culture at this moment.”
